Discoveryopt ED-AR 1-8X24SFIR FFP MOA — Japanese ED Glass, Side Parallax, LPVO

The Discoveryopt ED series represents the manufacturer's premium optical line, and the ED-AR 1-8X24SFIR is one of its most versatile members. This is an LPVO (Low Power Variable Optic) — a variable magnification scope designed primarily for dynamic shooting situations where both rapid close-range target acquisition and mid-range precision shooting are required.

Japanese ED Glass — the foundation of image quality

The ED in the model name stands for Extra-Low Dispersion glass. These Japanese-made lens elements effectively reduce chromatic aberration — the optical error that causes coloured fringing along high-contrast edges. The fully multi-coated lenses provide approximately 90% light transmission, an outstanding figure for this category, delivering sharp, high-contrast images even in poor lighting conditions.

1–8x magnification — true 1x to reliable 8x

The 1–8x magnification range is one of the widest in the LPVO category. At 1x, the scope provides a distortion-free, true image — ideal for close-quarters engagement with both eyes open. At 8x, the field of view at 100 yards is 15.7 feet (approx. 4.8 m), enabling effective aiming at medium and longer distances.

FFP MOA reticle — accurate readings at every magnification

The first focal plane (FFP) reticle scales proportionally with magnification. This means the MOA-graduated markings represent true angular measurements at every power level — no mental arithmetic required to compensate for magnification. This is particularly important for ballistic holdovers and wind corrections. The reticle is etched, ensuring durable and reliable readings over time. The red illumination is adjustable across 6 brightness levels, with only the centre dot illuminated for fast, precise aiming in reduced light.

Side parallax adjustment — an exceptional feature in an LPVO

One of the most notable features of the ED-AR 1-8X24SFIR is its side focus parallax adjustment, ranging from 5 yards to infinity. This is an extremely rare solution in the LPVO category. Correct parallax adjustment not only sharpens the image but also improves aiming accuracy by eliminating parallax error caused by eye position. This makes the scope well suited for NRL22 competition, precision airgun use and hunting.

34mm tube and weatherproof construction

The 34mm tube diameter — compared to the conventional 30mm — provides greater mechanical rigidity and more internal space, benefiting both light transmission and adjustment range. The housing is made from aerospace-grade aluminium, sealed with O-rings and nitrogen-filled, guaranteeing waterproofing (1 m depth for 30 minutes), fogproofing and resistance to internal condensation. The 1500G shock resistance ensures reliable performance even on firearms chambered in .50 BMG.

Tactical turrets and zeroing features

The elevation and windage adjustment turrets are tactical-style with exposed dials. The Zero Lock function secures the set zero point by pressing down, preventing accidental adjustment. Zero Reset allows quick return to zero. Zero Stop is not available on this model. In line with the MOA-graduated reticle, adjustments are expressed in MOA — please refer to the product datasheet for exact click values and maximum adjustment range.

Applications

  • Dynamic sport shooting (e.g. IPSC, 3-Gun) — 1x for fast target acquisition, 8x for precision shots within the same match
  • Hunting — the 5-yard-to-infinity parallax range and wide field of view suit fast-moving game
  • NRL22 and precision airgun shooting — short minimum focus distance and FFP MOA reticle are ideal for these disciplines
  • Tactical applications — illuminated FFP reticle and robust construction suitable for military and law enforcement use

Lifetime warranty

Discoveryopt provides a lifetime warranty on all ED series products. If the scope fails or malfunctions, the manufacturer will repair or replace it free of charge — no registration or proof of purchase required. The warranty does not cover theft, intentional damage or cosmetic damage that does not affect performance.
