Discovery Optics HD 2-12×24 SFIR FFP – Compact Size, Professional Performance

The Discovery Optics (DiscoveryOpt) HD series has long been recognised for delivering outstanding value for money, and the HD 2-12×24 SFIR FFP is perhaps the finest example of that philosophy. This small yet high-performing riflescope is equally at home on the hunting field, the airgun range or at an HFT (Hunter Field Target) competition.

What makes this scope special?

It may come as a surprise that an optic just 215 mm long and weighing a mere 470 g can deliver serious performance — but that is exactly what the Discovery HD series is about. The scope is built around a one-piece, aircraft-grade aluminium 30 mm monotube, combining exceptional rigidity with a lightweight profile.

The HD (High Definition) designation is more than a marketing claim: the lens system features multi-layer, fully anti-reflection-coated optical glass that produces an exceptionally clear and high-contrast image. The Schott HT glass with VePRO FMC coating delivers approximately 90% light transmission — a particularly valuable advantage in low-light conditions, at dawn or dusk.

FFP reticle – accurate MIL at every magnification

The scope uses a First Focal Plane (FFP) design, preferred by experienced shooters over second focal plane (SFP) configurations. The key advantage: the reticle scales proportionally with magnification, so MIL subtensions remain accurate at any power setting. No conversion factors, no memorised tables.

The VCT-20A precision-etched, illuminated reticle also compensates for bullet drop and offers six red illumination intensity levels for twilight and low-light use. The reticle design is uncluttered, ensuring it never obscures the target even at maximum magnification.

Side parallax – a rarity in this size category

One of the most remarkable features of the HD 2-12×24 SFIR FFP — and one that sets it apart from virtually all other scopes in the compact short-throw category — is its adjustable side parallax (Side Focus IR). At this size and weight, most manufacturers opt for fixed parallax. This adjustable solution represents a significant competitive advantage.

Parallax correction is available from 5 yards (approx. 4.5 m) to infinity, which is critical for HFT shooters and airgun hunters where targets can be just a few metres away. Sharp, precise aiming at any distance.

Push-Zero Lock turrets – secure zeroing

The Push-Zero Lock 1/10 MIL click-value turrets allow the zero position to be locked after sighting in, preventing accidental shifts in the field. Turret clicks are loud and positive, easily felt even with gloved hands or in cold conditions.

Waterproof and fogproof construction

High-quality O-ring seals and nitrogen purging ensure the optic is fully waterproof and fogproof. Rain, mist, morning dew or brief submersion will cause no harm. The 1200G shock resistance ensures the scope withstands repeated recoil impulses, even on larger calibre firearms.

Who is it for?

  • HFT competitors — compact size, accurate FFP MIL reticle, close-range parallax adjustment
  • Hunters — lightweight, short profile for carbines, shotguns or lightweight rifles
  • Airgun shooters — 5-yard minimum focus distance, rugged construction
  • Beginners and experienced shooters alike — outstanding value for money, lifetime warranty
