DISCOVERYOPT ED-LHT GEN II 3-15×50SFIR FFP-Z — Precision Optics with Japanese ED Glass

The DISCOVERYOPT ED-LHT GEN II series is one of the manufacturer's most successful lines, combining extra-low dispersion (ED) glass with a lightweight aluminium tube to produce a reliable, versatile riflescope that performs equally well in a hunting blind, on a competition bench or in tactical use.

Optical System — Japanese ED Glass for Superior Image Quality

At the heart of the ED-LHT GEN II is the Japanese FCD100 HOYA ED glass, which effectively reduces chromatic aberration — the fringing of colours along high-contrast edges that plagues cheaper optics. The result is a clean, contrast-rich image that holds its quality in low light, at dusk and at dawn.

The fully multi-coated (FMC) lens system achieves a light transmission rate of at least 92%, ensuring that the light gathered by the 50 mm objective is put to full use — the field of view stays bright and lifelike across the entire 3–15× magnification range.

First Focal Plane (FFP) Illuminated Reticle

The reticle is positioned on the first focal plane (FFP), meaning its apparent size scales proportionally with magnification. It appears smaller at low power and larger at high power — so reticle subtensions remain accurate at every magnification level without the need to recalculate ballistic corrections.

It is worth noting — and experienced users confirm this — that FFP reticles appear thinner at low magnification, which can make them harder to pick up in some conditions. To address this, the manufacturer has integrated 6-level adjustable red illumination, which makes the reticle clearly visible in poor light or against cluttered backgrounds.

Precision Turrets and Zero Stop

The elevation and windage turrets operate with 1/10 MIL (0.1 MRAD) click values, offering sufficiently fine adjustment for both medium and long-range shooting. Total adjustment range:

  • Elevation: 23.2 MRAD
  • Windage: 17 MRAD

The built-in Zero Stop feature allows a fast and reliable return to your zeroed position without manually counting clicks — particularly useful in tactical situations or during hunting when quick transitions are required.

Side Parallax Adjustment

The left-side parallax adjustment wheel allows precise focus correction from 10 yards (approx. 9 m) to infinity. This is not merely a convenience feature: eliminating parallax error directly affects shot accuracy, especially at longer distances. The side-mounted design allows adjustment without removing your eye from the reticle.

Tube and Mechanical Construction

The 30 mm one-piece tube is machined from T-6061 aerospace-grade aluminium, with CNC machining and a hard-anodised finish. This construction delivers excellent rigidity at minimal weight — the total scope weight is just 792 g.

Shock resistance is rated at 1500 G, making it suitable for high-calibre rifles — according to Discovery's own reports, it functions reliably even when mounted on a .50 BMG.

Nitrogen filling and sealed O-ring construction provide waterproofing to 1 metre for 30 minutes, along with full fogproof protection.

User Feedback from Forums

The ED-LHT GEN II 3-15×50 has received consistently positive feedback across international shooting forums and review channels:

  • "Great quality for the money. My only complaint is that the reticle can get a little lost at higher magnification — but overall a really good, clear scope." — Judge.me customer review
  • "I've had three Discovery scopes now and they simply can't be beaten for the price. The GEN II with ED glass is on a completely different level." — AirgunNation forum
  • "The turrets have tactile and cleanly audible clicks, and adjustments are accurate. The Discovery ED glass is close to Arken EPL4 quality." — PredatorMasters forum

Note: the FFP reticle does appear thinner at low magnification — this is a general characteristic of FFP construction, not a product-specific defect. Switching on the red illumination compensates for this effectively.

Who Is This Scope For?

The DISCOVERYOPT ED-LHT GEN II 3-15×50SFIR FFP-Z is primarily recommended for shooters seeking a reliable, high-quality optic for precision shooting, hunting or competitive sport shooting at medium to long range (approx. 100–800 m), without paying premium European or American brand prices. The combination of Zero Stop turrets, side parallax and FFP reticle makes it especially appealing to those working with MIL-based ballistic solutions. Its 1500 G shock rating makes it a safe choice for high-calibre rifles as well.
