Detailed description

DiscoveryOpt ED PRS GEN II 5-25x56 SFIR FFP — Precision Optics for PRS and Long-Range Hunting

The DiscoveryOpt ED PRS second generation is built for shooters who want competition-grade optical performance without the premium price tag. The 5–25x magnification range combined with a first focal plane (FFP) reticle makes it an excellent choice for PRS competitors and hunters regularly engaging targets beyond 300 metres.

Japanese ED Glass — Minimal Chromatic Aberration

The scope uses Japanese ED (Extra Low Dispersion) glass, which significantly reduces chromatic aberration — the colour fringing that can appear at the edges of high-contrast objects at long range. Targets remain sharp and well-defined even in strong sunlight, heat mirage, or extended distances. The fully multi-coated lens system maximises light transmission, making the image noticeably bright and clear during dawn and dusk shooting.

Lock Down Turrets and Precise Adjustment

This is the defining feature of the L series: the turrets are equipped with a Lock Down system, which allows the dialled position to be mechanically locked in place. This prevents accidental turret movement during transport or field use — without the need to re-zero after each outing. It is worth noting that this is not a Zero Stop mechanism — rather than automatically returning to zero, the Lock Down system secures whatever position the turret is set to.

  • Elevation range — 36 MRAD (approx. 122 MOA)
  • Windage range — 17 MRAD (approx. 60 MOA)
  • Click value — 0.1 MIL (1/10 MIL), with positive and consistent clicks
  • Tracking accuracy — manufacturer guarantees 1% or less tracking error across the full range
  • Lock Down — the set turret position can be mechanically locked against accidental movement

The turret size and grip allow comfortable operation even with gloves, which is a genuine advantage in field conditions.

First Focal Plane (FFP) Etched Reticle

The FFP reticle scales proportionally with magnification, meaning the subtensions remain accurate at any power setting. There is no need to calculate corrections based on magnification — the MIL values read directly from the reticle can be applied immediately for windage holds and bullet drop compensation. The reticle is glass-etched rather than painted, ensuring long-term durability and fine, precise lines. Optional illumination (powered by a CR2032 battery) offers 5 brightness levels, useful for shooting against darker backgrounds.

Side Parallax Adjustment and Focus

The side-mounted parallax adjustment wheel allows quick and precise focusing from 25 yards (approx. 23 m) to infinity. This placement means the shooter can adjust parallax without breaking their shooting position — a practical feature both on the range and in the field.

Who Is It For?

This scope is primarily aimed at PRS and long-range precision shooters, as well as hunters who regularly take shots beyond 300 metres in open terrain. The large elevation travel, reliable Lock Down turrets and ED glass together deliver a level of performance typically found in significantly more expensive optics.

Note: scope rings or mounting hardware are not included.
