Detailed description

DiscoveryOpt LHT 3–12×42 SFIR FFP — Compact FFP Riflescope for Hunters and Sport Shooters

The DiscoveryOpt LHT series (Lightweight Hunting & Target) is designed for those who refuse to choose between lightweight portability and serious optical performance. The LHT 3–12×42 SFIR FFP is the entry model of this series — but that does not mean any compromise on features.

First Focal Plane Reticle — Why Does It Matter?

The FFP (First Focal Plane) design means the reticle scales with the image as magnification changes. In practice, this means the ballistic markings on the MOA scale remain accurate at every magnification level. There is no need to calculate corrections mentally or stop at a fixed magnification — holdovers and wind corrections can be applied freely at any zoom setting. This is an advantage that was previously available only in significantly more expensive optics.

The reticle features an engraved design with MOA graduation. The 6-level red illumination makes the reticle clearly visible in twilight and low-light conditions, with distinct, audible clicks between brightness levels.

Optics and Light Transmission

The 42 mm objective lens with fully multi-coated glass maximises light transmission and minimises reflections. The exit pupil diameter is 13.3 mm at 3× and 3.3 mm at 12×, providing a solid foundation for low-light and dawn/dusk hunting. The field of view at 100 yards is 10.8 m (35.6 ft) at 3× and 2.6 m (8.7 ft) at 12×.

Side Parallax — The Key to Versatility

The side parallax adjustment (Side Focus) runs from 8 yards to infinity. This range allows the scope to function accurately on air rifles, .22 rimfire rifles and medium-calibre hunting firearms alike — a single adjustment always delivers a sharp image regardless of target distance. The parallax knob is located on the left side of the turret housing, perfectly positioned for natural hand placement.

Turrets and Adjustment Range

The lockable 1/4 MOA turrets (Zero Lock — locked by pressing down) protect your zero from shifting during field use. The elevation adjustment range is 86 MOA and the windage range is 60 MOA — providing ample room for various shooting distances and zeroing scenarios. Clicks are positive, clearly audible and tactile.

Tube and Mechanical Construction

The 30 mm aluminium tube is machined from 6061-grade alloy — an aerospace-quality material that offers an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. The tube is nitrogen-filled to prevent internal fogging during temperature changes. The IP67 waterproof rating ensures full water resistance even during brief submersion. The scope is shock-resistant and handles the recoil of medium-calibre firearms.

  • Length — 304 mm (compact and easy to carry)
  • Weight — 480 g (true to the series' lightweight name)
  • Eye Relief — 86–87 mm (safe and comfortable)
  • Warranty — 3 years (LHT series)

Mount Recommendation

The 30 mm tube requires 30 mm ring mounts. For optimal stability and durability, we recommend Picatinny-compatible rings machined from 6061-grade aluminium — these ensure a solid, vibration-free attachment.

User Feedback Summary

The DiscoveryOpt LHT series has received positive feedback across multiple English-language forums and review platforms. Users consistently highlight the value for money: glass quality is considered good for the price category, turret clicks are positive, and zero retention is reliable. One verified buyer noted: "Like the quality, love the price. I put the scope on a PCP air rifle — great match for the gun, I will buy more and do recommend." On the Airgun Nation forum, Discovery optics are generally described as hard to beat for the money. Users do note that on FFP scopes, the reticle appears thinner at lower magnification — this is not a defect but a natural characteristic of the FFP system. Turning on the illumination at low magnification largely eliminates this. (Source: Airgun Nation forum)

Who Is This Riflescope Recommended For?

This riflescope is primarily suited to hunters, sport shooters and air gun enthusiasts who are looking for a first focal plane optic at a sensible price. It is an ideal choice for stalking, hunting from a hide, rimfire competition and range shooting alike. We recommend it to beginners choosing their first FFP scope and to experienced shooters seeking a reliable, lightweight field optic without paying a premium price.

Compatible 30 mm ring mounts and accessories are also available in our shop.
